Unit 9: Protecting the environment — câu tường thuật (kể · hỏi · mệnh lệnh)

⚡ Nhớ nhanh

1Thuật lại là kể lại lời người khác, không trích nguyên văn: đổi đại từ, lùi thì, đổi từ chỉ thời gian · nơi chốn (now → then · tomorrow → the next day · here → there).
2Câu kể: said (that) · told + ai (that): He said (that) the river was polluted.
3Câu hỏi: asked if / whether (Yes/No) hoặc asked + Wh-, trật tự như câu kể, bỏ do / does / did: She asked where I had put the bin.
4Mệnh lệnh: told / asked + ai + (not) to V: He told us not to waste water.
5Động từ có sắc thái, mỗi từ một mẫu: advise · remind · warn + ai + to V · suggest · recommend · deny + V-ing · promise · offer · refuse + to V.
6Thói quen chống sai: gặp động từ tường thuật thì hỏi ngay mẫu của nó là gì; gặp sự thật hiển nhiên hoặc động từ tường thuật ở hiện tại thì không cần lùi thì.

Điền đúng từ loại (dạng điền quảng cáo / thông báo)

1 Nhìn từ ngay trước và ngay sau chỗ trống.
2 Sau mạo từ, tính từ, hoặc làm tân ngữ → danh từ. Đứng trước danh từ → tính từ.
3 Bổ nghĩa cho động từ hoặc cả câu → trạng từ (-ly).
4 Đọc lại cả câu: nghĩa và số ít / số nhiều có khớp không ✓

Nhớ bốn điều

✦Câu kể: said (that) · told + ai (that), rồi lùi thì: “I am tired,” he said. → He said (that) he was tired. Từ chỉ thời gian đổi theo: now → then · tomorrow → the next day · yesterday → the day before · here → there.
✦Hỏi Yes/No: asked + if / whether + mệnh đề như câu kể: “Do you recycle?” → She asked if I recycled.
✦Hỏi Wh-: asked + Wh- + S + V, bỏ do / does / did, không đảo, không dấu hỏi: He asked me where I had put the bin.
✦Mệnh lệnh: told / asked + ai + to V; phủ định là not to V: She told us to turn off the lights.

Thuật lại một câu trực tiếp

1 Xác định dạng: kể, hỏi hay mệnh lệnh, rồi chọn khuôn: said that · asked if / Wh- · told + ai + to V.
2 Đổi đại từ, sau đó lùi thì và đổi từ chỉ thời gian · nơi chốn.
3 Câu hỏi thì viết lại theo trật tự câu kể, bỏ do / does / did và dấu hỏi.
4 Đọc lại: còn sót dấu ngoặc, dấu hỏi, đại từ cũ không? Thì và thời gian đã đổi hết chưa ✓

⚠️ Bẫy hay gặp: ❌ She asked me where did I put the bin. ✅ She asked me where I had put the bin. Câu hỏi gián tiếp dùng trật tự câu kể, bỏ did.

3 🎯 Động từ tường thuật có sắc thái

Động từ tường thuật và mẫu câu

Hai trường hợp không cần lùi thì

✦Sự thật vẫn còn đúng thì có thể giữ nguyên: He said that water boils at 100 degrees.
✦Động từ tường thuật ở hiện tại thì không lùi: She says she is tired.
✦Việc riêng của người nói (đã xảy ra, sẽ xảy ra) thì vẫn lùi như bình thường: He said he would come the next day.

Dạng bài

Chọn động từ tường thuật và mẫu câu

1 Đọc ý của lời gốc: khuyên, cảnh báo, hứa, từ chối hay phủ nhận?
2 Chọn động từ hợp nghĩa, rồi nhớ mẫu riêng của nó (ai + to V · V-ing · to V).
3 Lời gốc phủ định thì thêm not ngay trước to hoặc trước V-ing.
4 Đọc lại: có tân ngữ người chen vào chỗ không được chen không ✓

4 🔍 Đọc trong ngữ cảnh

Soi một đoạn văn · bấm chú giải để chỉ sáng một loại

Last Sunday, our class joined a clean-up at the lake near school.

The leader told us not to touch broken glass, and she advised us to separate plastic from paper.

At first, some boys said they were too tired, but they soon changed their minds.

As a result, we filled 40 bags in three hours, and that made everyone proud.

they = some boys · that = việc đầy 40 túi rác. Người ra lệnh và khuyên là trưởng nhóm, các bạn học sinh là người nghe.

Đọc như người ra đề

✦Đề hay hỏi "The word they refers to …": tìm danh từ số nhiều đứng trước gần nhất mà hợp nghĩa khi thay vào.
✦but = đổi chiều · so / as a result = kết quả · At first / Then = thứ tự. Đây là chìa khoá của dạng sắp xếp câu.
✦Gặp động từ tường thuật thì hỏi lại ai nói, ai nghe, ai phải làm. "Some boys told the leader to rest" là SAI so với đoạn trên.

Dạng 4 · Đọc hiểu

Last spring, the students of Nguyen Du High School took part in a “Green Week”. The idea came from their geography teacher, Mr Long, who said that the school generated too much rubbish every day. He asked the students if they wanted to change that, and almost everyone said yes. On Monday, the principal told all classes to bring their own water bottles and lunch boxes. She also warned students not to use plastic straws in the canteen. On Tuesday, a group of volunteers suggested setting up recycling bins in every corridor. They also promised to empty the bins every afternoon. Not everyone was happy at first. Some students complained that the new rules were inconvenient, and a few of them refused to carry heavy bottles. However, after the school measured the results, the numbers surprised everyone. In just five days, the amount of plastic waste dropped by more than half. Mr Long said that small habits could make a big difference. Today, the school keeps Green Week every year, and other schools in the city are learning from it.

🎯 Unit này vào đề tốt nghiệp ở đâu?

•Đề tốt nghiệp không hỏi ngữ pháp rời. Động từ tường thuật thường nằm trong bài điền quảng cáo / thông báo (told us, invites every student, ask if) hoặc ở dạng điền câu vào đoạn văn.
•Bài đọc hay gài câu hỏi ai bảo ai làm gì: "told Hoa to ask Nam to bring" nghĩa là người mang là Nam. Đọc kỹ động từ tường thuật và tân ngữ đi sau.
•Chủ đề môi trường rất hay xuất hiện trong bài đọc dài. Thuộc họ từ (protect → protection → protective · sustain → sustainable → sustainably) giúp làm nhanh câu điền từ loại.
