Unit 7: Viet Nam and international organisations — so sánh hơn · so sánh nhất

Dùng đúng so sánh bằng, so sánh hơn và so sánh nhất (kể cả much / far, in / of), đọc ra đúng ai hơn ai kém khi gặp đề, và làm quen bốn dạng câu của đề tốt nghiệp qua chủ đề tổ chức quốc tế.

⚡ Nhớ nhanh

  • 1Tính từ ngắn: adj-er than · the adj-est. Tính từ dài: more adj than · the most adj: bigger than · more important than.
  • 2So sánh bằng: as + tính từ nguyên dạng + as: Ha Noi is as big as Hai Phong. Phủ định: not as … as.
  • 3Nhấn mạnh so sánh hơn bằng much / far / a lot (chênh nhiều) hoặc a bit / slightly (chênh ít). Không dùng very: much more important.
  • 4So sánh nhất: in + nơi chốn, tổ chức (in ASEAN) · of + nhóm, khoảng thời gian (of the three, of the year).
  • 5Mỗi tính từ chỉ dùng một cách: the tallest (không phải the most tallest), more important (không phải importanter).
  • 6Thói quen chống sai: xác định trước đang là bậc nào (bằng · hơn · nhất), rồi mới điền vào khuôn của bậc ấy.

  1. 1 Nhìn từ ngay trước và ngay sau chỗ trống.

  3. 3 Bổ nghĩa cho động từ hoặc cả câu → trạng từ (-ly).

2 ⚖️ So sánh bằng và so sánh hơn

Giữa hai chữ as luôn là tính từ nguyên dạng (large), không bao giờ là larger. Câu này cho biết Indonesia lớn hơn Viet Nam.

Nhớ bốn điều

  • ✦Ngắn: thêm -er (larger). Nhân đôi phụ âm cuối (big → bigger); -y → -ier (early → earlier). Dài: more + tính từ (more important).
  • ✦Bất quy tắc: good → better, bad → worse, far → farther / further.
  • ✦Nhấn mạnh: much / far / a lot cho chênh nhiều; a bit / slightly cho chênh ít: The second plan is much cheaper. Không dùng very.
  • ✦Đảo vai hai vế thì giữ được nghĩa: Laos is smaller than Viet Nam = Viet Nam is not as small as Laos.

  1. 1 Xác định bậc của câu gốc: hơn, bằng hay không bằng?
  2. 2 Muốn dùng not as … as thì đảo vai hai vế (A hơn B ⇒ B không bằng A).
  3. 3 Điền tính từ nguyên dạng vào giữa hai chữ as.
  4. 4 Đọc lại: nghĩa có bị đảo ngược không? Không ⇒ đúng ✓

⚠️ Bẫy hay gặp: ❌ Ha Noi is as bigger as Hai Phong. ✅ Ha Noi is as big as Hai Phong. Giữa hai chữ as là tính từ nguyên dạng, không phải dạng so sánh hơn.

of + nhóm, khoảng thời gian

Phạm vi là một nhóm đã đếm hoặc một mốc thời gian. Lan is the youngest of the three delegates. It was the busiest day of the year.

  1. 1 Có the và đang nói “nhất” trong cả một phạm vi ⇒ so sánh nhất.

4 🔍 Đọc trong ngữ cảnh

Soi một đoạn văn · bấm chú giải để chỉ sáng một loại

The United Nations is the largest organisation in the world.

In contrast, ASEAN is much smaller, but it works more closely with Viet Nam.

This is why many students find it easier to follow than the UN.

This = việc ASEAN làm việc gần với Viet Nam hơn · it = ASEAN, không phải the UN. Thứ tự về cỡ là UN > ASEAN.

Đọc như người ra đề

  • ✦Đề hay hỏi “The word it refers to …”: tìm danh từ gần nhất hợp nghĩa khi thay vào. Ở đoạn trên it là ASEAN.
  • ✦In contrast / However / but = trái chiều · This is why / As a result = kết quả · First / Then = thứ tự. Đây là chìa khoá của dạng sắp xếp câu.
  • ✦So sánh gài bẫy ở chiều hơn kém: “ASEAN is much smaller” nghĩa là the UN lớn hơn. Khi đọc, tự ghi nhanh thứ tự (UN > ASEAN) rồi mới chọn đáp án.

Viet Nam became the seventh member of ASEAN in 1995, and since then the country has played a bigger role in the region. At first, Viet Nam had fewer experts than older members such as Thailand. However, its economy has grown faster than many people expected. Today, Viet Nam is not as large as Indonesia, but it has a larger population than most other members. ASEAN does not only hold meetings about trade. Young people also benefit from it. Each year, many students join exchange programmes. They live with local families and study at schools in other countries. Many of them say this is the most valuable experience of their school life, because they learn not only a language but also how to cooperate with people from different cultures. Of course, living abroad is not always easy. Some students feel homesick, and the food is often very different from what they eat at home. Still, almost all of them say that the programme was far more useful than they had thought, and many want to join another one in the future.

  • •Đề tốt nghiệp không hỏi so sánh rời. So sánh thường nằm trong bài điền quảng cáo / thông báo (more interesting than, the largest in, as … as) hoặc ở dạng điền câu vào đoạn văn.
  • •Bài đọc hay gài chiều hơn kém: “A is not as large as B” nghĩa là B lớn hơn. Câu diễn đạt lại thường đảo vai hai vế, nên đọc kỹ ai đứng trước.
  • •Chủ đề tổ chức quốc tế, hợp tác khu vực hay gặp ở bài đọc. Thuộc họ từ (cooperate → cooperation → cooperative → cooperatively) giúp làm nhanh câu điền từ loại.
