Thuật lại mệnh lệnh, lời nhờ, lời mời, lời khuyên, gợi ý và lời đề nghị giúp bằng đúng mẫu của từng động từ (told / asked / invited / advised + ai + to V · suggested + V-ing · offered + to V), và làm quen bốn dạng câu của đề tốt nghiệp qua chủ đề học tập suốt đời.

1Thuật lại câu không phải câu kể: trước hết hỏi người nói đang làm gì: ra lệnh, nhờ, mời, khuyên, gợi ý hay đề nghị giúp.
2told / asked / invited / advised + ai + (not) to V: She told me to submit the form.
3Phủ định: not đứng trước to: told me not to worry, không phải to not worry.
4suggested + V-ing hoặc suggested that + S + (should) + V: He suggested taking the course.
5offered / promised + to V, người nhận đặt sau: He offered to help me.
6Thói quen chống sai: suggest, offer, promise không bao giờ đi với ai + to V.

suggest: V-ing hoặc that

"Let’s …" ⇒ suggested + V-ing: She suggested joining the club. Hoặc suggested / recommended that + S + (should) + V nguyên thể: She recommended that he take the class. Không bao giờ "suggested me to".

offer / promise: to V ngay

"I’ll …" ⇒ offered / promised + to V, người nhận đặt sau động từ chính: He offered to carry my books. Không chen người vào giữa: ~~offered me to help~~.

4 🔍 Đọc trong ngữ cảnh

Soi một đoạn văn · bấm chú giải để chỉ sáng một loại

When my grandmother retired at 60, my cousin suggested taking an online English course.

At first, she refused, but my cousin offered to help her set up the computer.

Then the teacher invited her to join a speaking club for adult learners.

Now she advises us to keep learning, because it keeps the mind young.

she / her = my grandmother · it = việc tiếp tục học. Người cài máy tính là anh họ (offered to help her), không phải bà.

Đọc như người ra đề

✦Đề hay hỏi "The word it refers to …": có khi it trỏ cả một việc (keep learning), không phải một danh từ.
✦At first → Then → Now = trình tự thời gian · but / However = đổi chiều. Đây là chìa khoá của dạng sắp xếp câu.
✦Câu tường thuật hay bị hỏi ai làm gì: offered to help her ⇒ anh họ giúp. Câu "The grandmother helped my cousin set up the computer" là SAI.

When Tran Van Tam retired from his job as a railway engineer at the age of 62, his children expected him to relax, garden and play with his grandchildren. Instead, he signed up for an online programming course. “My grandson suggested learning to code,” Tam laughs. “He said it would keep my brain young.” At first, the course was difficult. Tam did not understand many English words, and he often felt left behind by younger learners. His grandson offered to help him every Sunday, and the course teacher advised him to practise for just 20 minutes a day instead of studying for hours. Six years later, Tam has finished four courses and built a free app that reminds old people in his neighbourhood to take their medicine. More than 300 people now use it. Researchers say that learning new skills in later life can improve memory and reduce loneliness. Tam agrees. “Learning has given me new friends and a new purpose,” he says. “My only regret is that I didn’t start sooner.”
